Technical Hitch

I haven't been able to log on here for the last couple of months due to some sort of glitch in the interweb thingy. I wrestled with it a bit, then gave up, then went back for more, then gave up again and took it as a sign to stop posting.
However after resolutely ignoring the problem for a month or so it seems to have gone away all by itself.
Actually I've not been having much luck with t'internet at all recently. The new livebox from Orange didn't come with the necessary bit of kit to allow me to lug my PC all over the place. Not that I intended to anyway, but I just kind of thought that a dongle (now there's technical) would be a part of the package. Silly me.
So the old PC is still firmly rooted to the phone line, just via an earthnet cable and another box now. Even that was a struggle and had to be achieved via a phone call to the sub-continent as no drivers could be coaxed from the livebox disc.
Today the Viking Princess turned up with her wireless enabled laptop and was totally unable to find the wireless signal with that either.
The good folks of Orangistan with whom I feel I have develop a special relationship recently couldn't help at all this time blaming the laptops version of Windows, which I'm afraid is nonsense as it works fine on other networks.
At this point I have a new white box winking at me proclaiming to provide t'internet through the magic of wirelophone's invisible and odourless radiation technology, but in fact the only way to get online actually involves even more wires than it did before.
I think I may have an interweb version of the Emporers New Clothes.

In other news I've enjoyed a bit of island hopping recently. Westray by tiny wee ferry and Sanday by wee tiny plane have now been added to my imaginary tick list.
I've also ticked off another hotel in Orkney, The Shore, formerly The Queens. It was only half finished, but excellent non the less. I'm looking forward to staying again when the work is complete.

Oh and I've just finished reading The Beach, which I thoroughly enjoyed. After having heard the soundtrack a gazzillion times and seeing the movie I think three times I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to get around to reading the book. It was worth the wait though.
