To the isles once more

I'm just preparing to go up to Shetland again on Monday. I'm due to be flying out to Out(ter?) Skerries mid week, and I'm fair looking forward to it. I've only been on the island once, about 4 years ago. That trip was by ferry over sparkling waters under blazing July sunshine. I think this visit might be a bit different! The snow and gales that were forcast for this weekend haven't made an appearance, maybe they're saving themselves for something.

Not a Koala Bear in Sight

A eucalyptus tree blew down in the garden during a big storm last week.
I'll never attract the local koalas to the garden at this rate.
Mind you it wasn't the howling gales that caused all the problems it was the torrential rain that came with them. Strath was turned into a river and Dingwall was a loch. We have a refugee in the house now as the Viking Princess' boyfriend was flooded out.
A few days after the storms I arrived in Orkney. They had just experienced the worst flooding in living memory, the place was in remarkably good nick considering.
At least the don't have many trees to blow down I suppose.
I made it over to the island of Hoy on this trip and it's rather unique place. I've been lucky enough to visit lots of the smaller isles around the country. There's something about the island life that appeals to me, but maybe on some islands more than others I guess.
I must get around to blogging my impressions of each of them sometime.
