Pre-Autumnal Lull

Not much going on around here at the moment. We had a weeks holiday in Shetland in August and got great weather. I went back for work the other week and spent a couple of days peering into the mist and almost got fog-bound. So changeable as ever there then.
Talking of changes, my work has decided that Orkney and Shetland are no longer in the Highlands and Islands, but in the N.E region. I’m employed by the N.W. region, so at the moment I’ve no idea if I’m still to be involved with the isles. No one seems to know what’s going on, so I’m just carrying on as usual for the moment. Next trip to Shetland is probably in November. No doubt I’ll be in Orkney again before that, middle of October I’m guessing. I’ll have to get a couple of trips to the North Coast fitted in the next couple of weeks too.
Trying to live quiet and economise a bit for a couple of months, this post summer – pre autumn lull is as good a time to do it as any I suppose. It’ll be the mad dash to Christmas soon enough. We’d like to go back up to Shetland with Rowan for the holidays, but the price of that is pretty extortionate, so it may depend on just how well this economy drive goes. The only alternative is probably that the Viking Queen goes up and I stay at home with Rowan. For some reason I seen to have spent an awful lot of Christmases and/or New Years alone recently.
Maybe I should be reading something into that fact!
